Problem: I have a 3pt post hole auger that I had used on my old Kubota L225, I have since upgraded to a kubota B2150 with a 5 foot belly mower. I have just put the auger on last night and it doesn't want to dig. It basically just sets on the top surface and doesn't go any deeper. It appears that I'm not able to get any down pressure on the auger so that it starts to dig with the auger portion. I'm not sure if taking off the belly mower would do anything or not to help with the situation.Any advise or suggestions are appreciated, Thanks, Mike

This brings up a good question I have been wondering about myself. Does three point hitch post hole digger really need to be used only on tractors that have "down pressure" on the three point lift?? My guess is that for soft soils probably not. If the ground is hard or rocky, then probably yes. Any comments from you experienced folks out there??Thanks ....

I have a B7100 with a Kubota auger, and no down pressure. It digs through rocky soil just fine. The weight of the implement should be enough to start the digging process. Are you certain the rockshaft is functioning correctly? No down stops set? Where do you have the top link? Could you move it up to a higher pin location on the tractor? ....

It might be stretching, but have you checked the rotation? ....

It sounds like the bit on the auger is dull. When it gets rounded to the under side it will ride up like you describe. If it's not too bad you can sharpen it to a chisel edge with a side grinder. I've used one for years on an Allis Chambers and now a JD 4300. Neither have down pressure and it works great with a sharp bit. ....

You may want to check to make sure that the valve that controls the drop rate isall the way open. I know if I don't adjust this when switching between the Mower, and the digger it has trouble starting up. Whne set up right, it will dig wonderfullyHope this helps,Pete ....
